Volcanoes, desert cactus and Penguins
We have been nowhere else where we’ve seen so many different things together. Lush forests, barren deserts, penguins, seals, beautiful blue oceans and active volcanoes. So many things, sometimes from one side of the island to the other. Even Hawaii, as beautiful as it is, doesn’t have the variety of life that the Galapagos Islands have.
Here you see a desert setting with a cactus, but if you look toward the bottom you can also see penguins. The Galapagos is uniquely situated at a point where several ocean currents come together. This can have the unusual effect of keeping the water cool enough for Penguins yet producing a desert environment.
